http://www.kent.k12.wa.us/KSD/IT/TSC/classroom/ppt/docs/CD_sound.docTo put sound into a Power Point presentation:
· Go to the slide that you wish to start the music on. (You can have two different songs on one presentation).
· Click on the Maximize button (between the minimize and close buttons at the top right of your screen).
· Make the PowerPoint screen very small (about 1/4 of the screen), and put it in the top right hand corner.
· Double click on "My Computer," so that you can see the icon of your CD.
· Double click on your CD and choose the track that you want to record.
· On the PowerPoint screen, go to Insert > Movies and Sound > Record a sound
· Push the play button on the CD and immediately push the round red button to begin recording
· When the song is over (or the part of the song is over that you wish to record), push the blue square button. Push the OK button to accept the recording.
· On the slide you will now see a small speaker. Move the speaker just below the lower right hand edge of the slide (so that it won’t show during the slide show).
· Go to Slide Show > Custom Animations > Multimedia Settings
o Make sure that you have highlighted the “Media” that you want (music recordings are called Media pictures and titles are called Picture frames).
· Check the box “Play using animation order”
· In the stop playing section, click on “After slides”
o The number that you enter here is either one number greater than the number of slides in your show, or the number of the slide that you want the song to stop playing on. This part is tricky because, if you are going to have more than one song in your slide show, you will need to figure out how many slides the song will play through. I usually get the slide show just about done, (with my timing for each slide already assigned), before I set these variables.
· If you have a short song and you wish to have it play more than once: click on More Options and click on loop until stopped. (This takes much less memory)
· With the Media still highlighted, click on: order and timing
· Choose automatically after seconds
o I usually choose 0 or 1 second (try it a few times to decide which you want)
o Be sure and save your changes often. If you don’t and something happens, you have to start way back at the record-a-sound stage.
Note: Do not use any sound effects on any of the pages that your song will be playing on because it will stop the song.
You can do fade in/outs in iMovie- outisde of that, you'll have to get an app like Sound Studio to use on the tracks. It's a great little app for chopping up and generally messing with sound files:

From Lois P.: I figured it out. This was the problem.
I had to go in the adjust audio properties and click the audio tab and then in the sound recording I click on volume and unselected Line In and checked Select under the CD Player. Problem solved!
